The Decatur, IL, station held its annual WSOY Community Food Drive on October 6 and made the massive haul. The proceeds from the food drive benefit local food pantries in the Decatur area, including the Salvation Army and Catholic Charities, among others.

Over 500 volunteers worked to get pallets, trucks, and even buses full of food unloaded and shipped to organizations that will distribute the food to the people that need it the most. This was the 16th year for the WSOY Community Food Drive, which was able to exceed its 1.5 million-pound goal and raise 1,501,537 million pounds of food. This food and money will be able to go right back into the Decatur and Macon County community.

“The shelves at local food panties are filled for the next 12-months thanks to the generosity of the Decatur community,” said Neuhoff Communications President/CEO Beth Neuhoff, who volunteered at the event. “To think of over 1.5 million pounds of food collected in a single day by a giving community is simply remarkable.”
