Nielsen Delivering Summer Survey Only to Puerto Rico.

Severe weather has wreaked havoc on the island of Puerto Rico this Hurricane season. Nielsen has confirmed to clients that the Summer 2017 Radio Market Report for Puerto Rico is releasing as scheduled today. However, the Fall Survey has been canceled due to Hurricane Maria. Here are the details.

Hurricane Irma struck Puerto Rico during the final week of the Summer 2017 survey period (June 22-September 13), which resulted in widespread damage and power outages. Nielsen says it carefully monitored performance metrics before, during and after the storm. “Although the Hurricane may have disrupted individual diary keepers, the Nielsen Data Science review of sample performance metrics for the survey supports the release of audience estimates for the full twelve-week Summer survey period.

Hurricane Maria made landfall in Puerto Rico at the end of the first week of the Fall 2017 Radio Survey. Nielsen suspended survey operations in the market prior to the storm making landfall. “Due to the very severe and extensive damage from the storm, operations have remained suspended. Consequently, Nielsen is canceling the Fall 2017 survey for the market since we do not expect to be able complete a survey that meets Nielsen quality standards given the extent of the ongoing disruptions to power, phone, and mail services in the market.”
