Inaugural MBA Radio Talent Institute Kicks Off

Students from nine Missouri universities will converge on the campus of the Northwest Missouri State University campus, Monday, for 10 intense days of immersion in radio broadcasting. They will learn from 30 radio pros teaching in their areas of expertise. The Talent Institute is presented by the Missouri Broadcasters Association, with additional support from seven broadcast groups. The MBA Radio Talent Institute is the first radio talent institute in the Midwest.

Mark Gordon, President of the Missouri Broadcasters Association, said, “This was made possible by the financial commitments from Northwest Missouri State University, the Missouri Broadcasters Board of Directors, and broadcast companies that include Hubbard Radio-St Louis; Eagle Communications-St. Joseph; Emmis Communications-St. Louis; Zimmer Radio and Marketing Group of Mid Missouri-Columbia, Jefferson City; iHeart Radio-St. Louis, Springfield, Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, Davenport; Cumulus Media-Kansas City, Columbia, Jefferson City; and Mid-West Family Broadcasting-Springfield. We are pleased to bring this program, taught by industry professionals, to Missouri, which will help fill job openings at broadcast stations with quality employees who have a true understanding of how fun and rewarding a career in our industry can be.”

John Zimmer, President of Zimmer Radio and Marketing Group, opens the Institute with “Now is the Time to Start Thinking like a Pro.” Bud Walters, President of Cromwell Broadcasting, will present the final session 10 days later. In between, students will learn from John R. Beck Sr., VP/General Manager of Emmis Communications St Louis; Matt Saunders, Market President for iHeart Springfield and Joel McCrea, Market President iHeart Des Moines; Gary Exline, General Manager of Eagle Communications St Joseph; Scott Meier, General Manager of Mid-West Family Broadcasting Springfield; Mike Rowen, General Sales Manager of Hubbard Radio St Louis; and speakers from Entercom, Steel City Media, Bott Radio Network and more.
