It would be fair to say that the station’s 15th Annual Food Drive was a success. The food (1,400,000 pounds, to be exact) was raised over a 12-hour event, and will go to 10 pantries in the Decatur/Macon County area. The station topped last year’s collection, which came in at 1,271,000 pounds. The first collection was in 2002 and brought in 35,000 pounds. Over the past 15 years, over 7.5 million pounds of food has been collected.

Brian Byers, VP Development for Neuhoff Media-Decatur, who hosts the 12-hour radio broadcast and serves as a co-chair of the local committee said, “It was an incredible day, we’re so thankful for the generosity of the community.”

“For WSOY to be able to do what they do in a community the size of Decatur showcases the power of radio’s connection, the essence of human compassion and the spirit of a place that care for its own,” said Beth Neuhoff, CEO of Neuhoff Communications. “I couldn’t be prouder.”

Now that’s live and local!
