New Morning Show At WDRV-FM Chicago

The Sherman & Tingle Show with Brian Sherman and Steve Tingle will debut October 31 on Hubbard Radio’s Rocker WDRV-FM in Chicago. They replace The Morning Drive which is hosted by Pete McMurray, Scott Miller, and Kathy Voltmer.

This marks a reunion for Sherman and Tingle, as they previously spent five years together hosting afternoons, then mornings on WKQX-FM, Chicago, from 2007 to 2011. Tingle went on to co-host mornings at Beasley Broadcasting’s WRDW in Philadelphia. From there, he joined the morning team at Lincoln Financial/Entercom’s WSTR-FM in Atlanta. Brian Sherman enjoyed a short hiatus from the industry in 2011 and later joined Matrix Broadcasting’s Classic Rock, WFXF-FM in Crystal Lake, IL, where he has hosted mornings for several years.

WDRV Program Director, Rob Cressman, says, “This is a very exciting new chapter for The Drive. We are eager to welcome Brian (Sherman) and Steve (Tingle) back to Chicago, and look forward to offering our region’s commuters a fresh take on Classic Rock, captivating entertainment, and local information each morning.”

  1. I am a loyal Drive listener–or I WAS. Sherman and Tingle are by far the worst. I can hear the desperation in their voices as they attempt to come up with interesting “topics” every morning. They are not interesting, funny, or entertaining. It actually prompted me to resubscribe to Sirius Satellite Radio. I can’t believe they have lasted this long! I really miss Pete and Danny Mac. I don’t even have my alarm radio set to 97.1 anymore. Perhaps just having music play would help until you find real talent again. Bye bye Drive!

  2. I gotta”gree that The Drive has really gone down hill. I spend a lot of time listening to the radio in the car, at the office, futzin’ around home… and since Steve retired from “the morning show that’s all about the music,” I discovered that I can turn the radio dial or push the tuning button in the morning. Unlike many of the previous commenters on here, I never liked Pete and Dan, nor Scott. But this is clearly an example of being careful what you wish for, or what you oppose, because like the majority of people who previously posted on here, I think Sherman and Tingle are a step, make that giant leap in the wrong direction. The other afternoon, I heard Steve Downes promo’ing them, saying something about never growing up… and I thought how ironic that the station is even bragging about how immature these two are. I get it — management wants to attract the younger listeners. News flash, Mr. Cressman: the younger listeners aren’t gonna’ listen t’ music that they don’t like just because ya’ got a couple a’ young idiots tryin’ t’ pander to ’em in between songs. And I’d like to compare the music logs from ten years ago and five years ago with what they’re playin’ now… on all shifts. Like I said, I listen a lot. Some days they repeat songs two or three or four times — the same songs that they play at least twice and sometimes three of four times a day EVERY day! Someone should sue them for “false advertising” every time they play the station tag and clam to have the best variety of music.

  3. Simply Put, I have been listening to radio since the early 70’s. Off with the new, back with the old. Otherwise it’s back to WXRT. Done with teenie bop shows. Whoever did it knows it. Now, STOP IT!

  4. No offense to Sherman & Tingle, but who the hell made the decision to replace Dan, Pat, and Kathy with these guys? S&T are good for high school proms and other milquetoast events, but there was so much better chemistry prior that I feel like I’m listening to a wedding dj. At least there’s NPR; much more livelier

  5. Sherman and tingle are the armpits of the universe.Pete,Scott And Cathy, I loved listening to their show, there was chemistry between them. BRING THEM BACK !

  6. Sherman and tingle are the armpits of the universe. I loved listening to their show, there was chemistry between them. BRING THEM BACK !

  7. cant believe you got rid of pete. he was awesome. i cant stand wingle and dingle they sound like a couple sissy punks. who ever made this decision should be canned also. love the station, just have to wait til bob comes on.
please remove the bingle and pingle show. bring back pete and company or risk losing your audience for good

  8. Get rid of these twits . I grew u[p listening to WLUP since late 70s early 80s. WLUP and WMET were the best. You probably wont bring back Pete, so at least think about getting Patty Haze or some well know Chicago FM voice. The two you have now belong on K-Hits not WDRV they are way to young…….

  9. I don’t like the new morning pair, they don’t belong, they just don’t fit, I’m not sure why ,they just don’t. Pete was pretty good with Kathy and Scott. I’m in Hammond Indiana and WLUP was the first station I listened to in my youth along with WMET. When the drive came on air I started to listen to it, I guess as I got older (now 49) my radio station got older with me more mature and that describes WDRV. Sherwoody and Dingledorf belong on K-hits. Please bring back Pete and Scott and Kathy, but you probably wont , just like WMET wouldn’t bring back Jon Fisher and Ray Shurman. Hey here’s an idea, how about Patty Haze ( might have spelled that wrong). Shes older and more mature Chicago radio. She is what I think people of my generation are looking for, a familiar voice that they can hear to give them some comfort that the great radio past is not gone and forgotten.

  10. I’ve been a loyal WDRV listener for many, many years. I truly hope Sherman and Tingle have a very short contract. These guys do not fit with the WDRV branding. They sound like a couple of idiots. So, get rid of these guys plus whoever made the decision to hire them at WDRV.

  11. I drive semi around Chicagoland Monday-Friday. I live in the South Bend, IN area. I use my Sirus XM radio on the weekends at home because the rock stations in SB are sub-par. Every Monday leaving home was great to be able to receive The Drive once I was west of SB by about 10-15 miles. I LOVED THE MORNING SHOW with Pete, Dan, and Kathy. They were great!!!!! This change to Sherman & Tingle is the most absurd thing The Drive could do. Can anyone imagine the radio shows that have Bob & Tom on them all of the sudden pulling them and putting on someone like a Mr. Rogers? That’s how lame Sherman & Timgle are!!!! Give them a show like Mr. Rogers Neighborhood and they would fit well there. On The Drive though?????? Fire the person that made this decision along with Sherman & Tingle and bring back Pete, Dan, and Kathy. The drive from South Bend is no longer enjoyable without The Morning Show of Pete, Dan, and Kathy being on The Drive!!!!!!!! I’ll just stick with SB station coming out of there and then when I can receive K-Love around Chicagoland I’ll listen to them. I’m certainly not going to put myself into pain hearing the lame ducks Sherman & Tingle!!!!!!!!
Listen to your listeners and correct this huge mistake please!!!!!!!!

  12. Have an open mind so i gave them a chance. Definately nit captivating entertainment. Soft , wimpy and not interesting.
guess its back to sports radio and pandora mix

  13. Ugh. I just want music, but I could tolerate McMurray, Miller, and Voltmer and even enjoyed them once in a while. This new pair sounds dangerously close to an attempt to move to the stereotypical morning show. Maybe they should just go all the way and hire Dingo and the Baby (check out the radio station frequency, BTW)

  14. Don’t like this change at all. Throughly, enjoyed interim between Pete and Scott to these new guys. And why, why, why ax Kathy Voltmer?
Won’t be waking up to the Drive in this house–

  15. Big mistake to change a good thing. Will just have to listen to another station. Just listen to to the morning show for ten minutes and had to change to another station. Bad bad move on the station management.

  16. HUGE mistake getting rid of Pete & Scott! I listened to them every morning without fail & I loved their show. Since I don’t care for WLUP’s morning show, guess it’s goodbye morning radio & back to listening to my own music collection. Whoever came up with the idea of getting rid of them & changing the morning show is the person/people who need to be replaced. HUGE Mistake!!!

  17. This is a real misstep. As always, they didn’t give it enough time. Pete would have built a moderately big audience eventually.

  18. OMG…..I am SO sick of radio stations changing a good thing!! Love the music on the Drive but without Pete (and Dan) it’s just music, which I can get on a CD!! THIS SUCKS!!!
