Smyth: We Are Delighted About This Deal

There have only been two CEOs at Greater Media since its launch 60 years ago: Peter Bordes up until 2000 and Peter Smyth ever since. Smyth was not available for an interview after the deal was announced Tuesday evening. The press release statement he offered up emphasized how Greater Media and Beasley had a common appreciation for local radio. He said he was delighted Greater Media’s stations will become a part of the Beasley family.

Smyth added, “As part of the Beasley portfolio, we believe our stations will be positioned extremely well for future growth and that our team members, customers, and the communities we serve will continue to thrive. Our employees have provided the skills and talent necessary to drive our ongoing growth and success over the years and we are proud of this heritage. I am thankful for their hard work and dedication and am confident they will continue to make many valuable contributions as part of a larger organization. I look forward to working with the Beasley team to bring our companies together to realize the power of this compelling combination and ensure a smooth transition.”

Smyth was introduced to Peter Bordes through Herb McCord. In 1986, Bordes offered him a job to go to Boston and run Magic [WMJX-FM, Magic 106.7]. He had never run a radio station and he was only 32 years old. No word yet on what Smyth will do once this deal closes.
