Dan Mason To Advise iHeartMedia

His name has been synonymous with CBS for decades and he did not stay retired for long. Once his end-of-employment agreement with CBS expired Dan Mason was ready to get right back into the business and he chose radio’s biggest company to do just that. The former CBS Radio CEO is now an advisor to iHeartmedia.

They are calling the position Senior Advisor for Broadcast Relations. Mason will report directly to iHeartMedia CEO and Chairman Bob Pittman and iHeartMedia President, COO. and CFO Rich Bressler.

Pittman said, “I’ve known and deeply respected Dan for decades. Given his long and deep relationships with the broadcast industry, we feel he is ideally suited to establishing deeper and more constant communications with everyone associated with the radio industry on an ongoing and timely basis. We look forward to Dan’s wise counsel on important broadcast issues.”

Mason added, “I’ve known both Bob and Rich for many years and have admired the inroads they have made in transforming iHeartMedia into the multi-dimensional entertainment company it is today. It will be great to join the team, and I look forward to continuing my relationships with everyone in the broadcast industry from this new platform.”

Mason announced his retirement from CBS Radio in April 2015. This week he was elected Chairman of the Broadcasters Foundation of America. He is also co-chair of Radio Ink’s Forecast 2017.

  1. That’s just what Clear Channel needs…another old white guy, Dan Mason, who for sure was effective back in the bygone glory days of radio, but certainly is not as aware of new trends and breakthrough digital thinking like younger people are. Pittman is way way too old too, to be running a company trying to be “hip”…again, he too operates from thinking and strategies that would have been valid and timely 20 years ago. No wonder iheart/clear channel is failing.

  2. Hey – Now that he is back in Radio, I’d like to see if he’s going to tell Clear Channel to play less commercials like comments he made a couple months ago. Let’s see if he has “strength in his convictions” or did he just say it when he had the luxury of irresponsibility?
