Over the weekend, WTOP was honored with eight Chesapeake Associated Press Broadcasters Association Awards, including an Outstanding Website award for WTOP.com. WTOP’s Chris Core received the award for Outstanding Specialty Reporting, his 5th year in a row to win. The WTOP Sports Department was also recognized with the Outstanding Year-Round Local Sports award, also their 5th win in as many years. WTOP was honored with more 2016 CAPBA awards than any other station in the metro region.
The awards were presented to WTOP employees on Saturday at the annual Chesapeake Associated Press Broadcasters Association Convention in Ocean City, Maryland. The Chesapeake Associated Press Broadcasters Association is comprised of television and radio professionals from across the region.
In 2016, WTOP has received over 24 major awards for excellence in journalism, including Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards, National Headliner Awards, and a NAB Crystal Award.
