$300K For The Homeless Is All In The Family

91.9/91.5 and 88.5 The Family is pleased to announce the final results of their 24th annual “Help for the Homeless” hygiene drive. More than $300,000 dollars’ worth of new hygiene and cleaning products were donated to 82 local crisis programs in 15 communities in their listening areas. Grand total value of donations collected since 2008 topped 2 million dollars’ worth this season. A total of 806 local businesses, churches, and schools participated by placing collection boxes in their high-traffic areas and inviting their own staff, members, and students to donate for three weeks this spring.

Nan Pahl of the Salvation Army gave an example of the positive effect of the drive. “A gentlemen came to our pantry looking a bit scruffy today. He quietly asked if we had razors and shaving cream.  When we told him we did, he actually jumped with excitement. He went on to say that he has a job interview tomorrow that he wanted to ‘clean up’ for, but didn’t have these things at home or the money to buy them because he’s been without work for quite a while. Every little bit counts to those in need and we thank each and every donor for your help during The Family’s Help for the Homeless, and all year through. We couldn’t do it without you.”
