35-year old Joseph Gerard Spooner, also known as “J.G. Spooner” was arrested Tuesday after allegedly funneling $7,000 in donations made to a GoFundMe campaign that was started for a woman suffering from cystic fibrosis. Spooner was fired by CBS Radio’s 92.3 The Fan in Cleveland earlier this week, according to Cleveland.com.

Cleveland.com reported that Spooner knew the person the money was being raised for and reached out to her family offering to help. He said he wanted to use his status as a local celebrity to increase exposure and boost donations. The family agreed and linked the GoFundMe account to Spooners bank account, then waited for the money to be transferred, but it never came. One of the organizers received an email from GoFundMe in July indicating that the money was transferred to Spooner. Investigators obtained statements from Spooner’s personal bank account and found 37 deposits that matched the dates and dollar amounts associated with GoFundMe donations.
