WUSF’s Seymour Retiring

This Saturday, at 9 p.m., Bob Seymour will host his last weekend evening of jazz music for WUSF Public Media in Tampa, ending 35 years behind the mic. Seymour is retiring as Jazz Music Director and Host at the station where he first became jazz director in 1981, hosting two hours of jazz each night.

Seymour said, “It’s been such an honor to be associated with this music, and with such great colleagues here at WUSF. And the time has sure flown by. I’ve made so many lasting friendships in the music community, and really treasure the relationship with the listeners who have joined us for All Night Jazz.”

Seymour first came to the Tampa Bay region in 1976, working at stations in Sarasota before joining WUSF. Over that time, he has met and interviewed a wide range of jazz greats, including Chick Corea, Dick Hyman, Benny Golson, Joe Henderson, Wayne Shorter, and Nat Adderley. This past March 13, the Palladium Theater in St. Petersburg celebrated Seymour during a special concert with sax master Harry Allen and vocalist Rebecca Kilgore in a tribute to Judy Garland – followed by a packed, three-hour jam session by many local jazz artists.

WUSF will also celebrate Seymour’s career with a feature radio piece, airing Monday the 28th at 8:45 a.m. and 5:45 p.m., and Wednesday the 30th at 8:40 a.m. and 5:45 p.m. on WUSF 89.7.
