It was pneumonia, a complication from his MS, that took Saul’s life according to the Chicago Tribune. Saul interned at WBBM-AM then went on to become a GM of two stations near Chicago, WEEF-AM and WONX-AM. When he realized radio did not have a radio network deal with the NBA, Saul won the league’s approval to create the NBA’s first-ever radio network in 1989.

Emmis CEO Jeff Smulyan said Saul had incredible courage in the face of adversity. “I have never seen anybody who battled so much and so incredibly valiantly with such a debilitating disease. I think about the fact that Brad could be in the hospital getting treatment and be on the phone with clients working through problems. It’s like nothing I’ve ever seen.”
