Fritts To Be Honored With Lowry Mays Award At NAB
Eddie Fritts has been announced as the recipient of the 2016 Lowry Mays Excellence in Broadcasting Award. The award will be presented at the Broadcasters Foundation of America annual breakfast at 7 a.m., Wednesday, April 20, in the Brahms Room of the Encore Hotel during the National Association of Broadcasters’ (NAB) Show in Las Vegas.
WKLB Boston Hires Castle For Night Shift
Renee Castle is the new nighttime personality at Greater Media's Country station, WKLB-FM in Boston. Castle most recently worked at NASH-FM in Nashville and has been heard across America on the Westwood One Radio Network. Prior to that Castle worked at MIX 92.9 in Nashville.
Cards Radio 790 WKRD Debuts Two New Shows
iHeartMedia Louisville announced that two new local shows will join the lineup at Cards Radio 790 KRD. Howie Lindsey (pictured) will host a new morning sports talk show from 7-10 a.m. weekdays. Also joining the Cards Radio 790 KRD lineup is Nick Coffey. Coffey will host a new local sports talk show from noon to 3 p.m.
Mary Walter Joins NewsRadio 840 WHAS
iHeartMedia Louisville announced Wednesday that Mary Walter will become a new weekday talk show host on NewsRadio 840 WHAS, effective February 29, 2016. The show will broadcast weekdays from 6-8 p.m.
Paige Grady Wins Beasley Award
Beasley Media Group, Inc. announced that Paige Grady has been named the company’s President’s Club Overall Winner for the calendar year 2015. This is the first time that Ms. Grady, Senior Account Manager for Beasley’s Tampa cluster, has earned this prestigious award.
Former WFAN Exec Joins ESPN
Steve Kalman in the new LSM at 98.7 ESPN in New York. Most recently Kalman managed play-by-play sales at WFAN. After spending more than a decade in the trade events business, Kalman left his last role as a VP at Reed Exhibitions in 2005 and moved into managing sports broadcast media sales. He's led and managed broadcast play-by-play sales teams for the NY Mets, NY Giants, and NY Yankees. He also spent two years as GSM at a rock station in Connecticut.
Elder Takes Hewitt Syndication Slot
Salem Media Group announced Wednesday that Larry Elder will take over for Hugh Hewitt as of April 4. Hewitt will move to mornings that same day. The changes are all a result of Bill Bennett stepping away from the morning slot on Salem's network.
Lucas Honored By Children’s Miracle Network
Alex Lucas, host of Entravision's syndicated morning show, El Show de Alex 'El Genio' Lucas, will be awarded Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals’ Hispanic Radio Person of the Year during Momentum, the charity’s annual Network-wide event. The award honors a U.S. Latino radio station staff member who has gone above and beyond in supporting CMN.
iHeart Austin Signs Billy The Kidd
The Billy The Kidd Show debuts on KHFI, 96.7 Kiss FM, Monday in morning drive. Anne Hudson will co-host the show with Kidd. Since December, mornings at KHFI have been music based, and Elvis Duran was on before that.
WLS-FM Adds Tom Kent
It was back in 1980 when Tom Kent first appeared on WLS, which was AM only at the time. Kent now returns to his old stomping grounds Saturday nights from 7p-Midnight with "Ultimate Party" on Cumulus Classic Hits WLS 94.7 FM. Kent said Brian Thomas is one of the smartest programmers out there bar none. "I mean, why else would he put me on the most legendary station on the planet?
