WGN Radio is dipping into its archives for a holiday programming block. Three hours of classic Roy Leonard shows will air on Christmas Eve, followed by 27 hours of Christmas Radio Theatre, hosted by Carl Amari.
In a career that spanned 31 years at WGN Radio and ended in 1998, Roy Leonard treated listeners to in-depth conversations with the biggest names in entertainment and introduced the audience to new talent.
Christmas Radio Theatre will feature some of the greatest Christmas programs from radio’s golden-age including: Miracle On 34th Street starring Edmund Gwenn, Lucille Ball in My Favorite Husband, Eve Arden in Our Miss Brooks, Bing Crosby and Al Jolson on The Kraft Music Hall, William Bendix on The Life of Riley and The Abbott & Costello Show; along with many others.
“It’s going to be a fun-filled 27 hours of incredible golden-age of radio Christmas programs, so cozy up around the radio,” said Amari.
Amari has spent decades licensing and preserving classic radio broadcasts from the 1930s, 40s, and 50s, is the curator of the Classic Radio Club, and board member of the Museum of Broadcast Communications in Chicago.
