Jacobs Media’s annual look at how radio listeners use media and technology is gearing up for another round. Stations have until mid-December to get in on Techsurvey 2027, with new questions on AI, car dashboards, and the devices people reach for first each morning.
The study will continue to trend media device ownership and usage, including on-demand media, push notifications, online newsletters, YouTube usage, and short-form video, by age, generation, gender, and ethnicity.
New this year, Techsurvey 2027 will update work-from-home and commuting habits and explore the first and last devices or media respondents use to start and end their days. It will also measure the role of AI in content and news discovery, whether the absence of an AM/FM radio in new car dashboards is a deal-breaker, and interest in folding smartphones.
Stations have until Friday, December 18, to sign up, with the study to be fielded in January and February 2027. Stations can secure a spot via the Jacobs Media website.
The 2026 survey had more than 500 participating stations across North America. Nine formats were represented, producing nearly 31,000 respondents.
Jacobs Media President Fred Jacobs noted, “For more than two decades, Techsurvey has been the largest and most important survey in commercial radio. In this year’s survey, we will have updated trending information to track broadcast radio’s digital progress, and we’ll map out the most effective ways stations and their companies can optimize ‘meeting the audience where they are.'”
