Student media leaders spent the week in Philadelphia swapping programming, marketing, and production ideas with working professionals, and organizers say the audience of radio, television, and digital’s future was the strongest since before the pandemic.
College Broadcasters, Inc. staged the National Student Media Convention this past week, and 497 attendees took part, the highest attendance since 2018. They heard from more than 85 media professionals and chose from 90 informational sessions built to send skills and techniques back to media organizations at colleges and universities across the country.
CBI presented The Dave Black Excellence in Advising Award to Montclair State University’s Anabella Poland in recognition of dedication and service to student electronic media operation. The Joel Willer Award went to Jamie Lynn Gilbert of North Carolina State University for dedication and service to student electronic media.
NSMC wrapped up Saturday with the National Student Production Awards, honoring student work across 40 categories. Judges reviewed more than 950 entries and named three finalists and one winner in each category. A complete list of winners and finalists is available on the CBI website.
College Broadcasters, Inc. President Anabella Poland commented, “Philadelphia never disappoints as a host of the National Student Media Convention. The number of media pros speaking at the conference nearly doubled since last year and our attendees loved the opportunities to share programming, marketing and production ideas with their peers. We know the creative energy we saw this week will now spread to campus media outlets all over the country.”
The 2027 NSMC will be held at the Hilton Cleveland Downtown October 27-30, 2027.
