Every seller has made that call. The revision came in at 4:30, the spot has to be in tomorrow’s log, and the client is hanging in the balance. Someone in traffic picks up and makes it happen. No fanfare, no commission. Just a campaign that airs on time.
At the 2026 Radio Wayne Awards, coming to NAB Show New York on October 21, Radio Ink is honoring the people who hold the sale together that the client likely will never meet: the traffic managers, continuity directors, and support staff who protect the revenue, rebuild the log, and get the spot on the air without a trace of the scramble. Their best work goes unseen.
This is one day to make sure it isn’t unnoticed.
Radio Ink asked the 2026 Radio Wayne Support Staff finalists what the most challenging part of their job is today, and what would make it easier. Here’s what they told us:
“In traffic, time is the ultimate challenge. Once a spot passes, you can’t get that inventory back. Juggling late creative, urgent sales revisions, and strict competitive separation under tight deadlines is a constant balancing act, especially when news or sports force sudden log rebuilds. Better communication is what would make the biggest difference. When sales teams keep us in the loop early, we eliminate last-minute fire drills and drastically reduce the risk of revenue loss. My ultimate focus is always protecting station revenue and safeguarding our clients’ investments.”
“The thing I find most challenging is doing more with less. The obvious answer to making it easier is to get back to having more, but that isn’t the reality, so we adapt with the tools at hand. Having the best stations and the best staff with the best tools makes it easier.”
“The most challenging thing, and also the most rewarding, is that the job is never the same two days in a row. Radio never gets boring. You never know what will happen today or tomorrow, so you take it one day at a time.”
