Over two days, iHeartMedia Honolulu’s 92.3 KSSK raised the largest one-year total in the history of its Kapiolani Radiothon for Kids, collecting $1,204,575 to fund pediatric programs and services at Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children.
The figure tops the previous record of $910,000, which Radio Ink reported last September during the radiothon’s 19th year. The radiothon has run annually since 2006 in partnership with the Children’s Miracle Network, and this year’s total pushes its cumulative haul past $7 million.
Kapiolani is Hawaii’s only full-service children’s hospital and its sole Children’s Miracle Network affiliate.
Station personalities broadcast live from the hospital over the two days, airing stories from patients and families alongside a volunteer-staffed phone bank. On social media, iHeart Honolulu credited its on-air and behind-the-scenes team, along with sponsors and listeners “from all over the world,” for pushing the event past the million-dollar mark.
