More than 50 years after starting a jingle company out of a Dallas apartment, the Texas Radio Hall of Fame has selected JAM Creative Productions founders Jonathan and Mary Lyn Wolfert for its George Baches Award for shaping how radio stations sound.
Named after the late graphic designer George Baches, the award recognizes those who make significant contributions to the success of radio stations through branding efforts, including logo design, sales and marketing materials, and jingles and audio imaging.
The Wolferts founded JAM Creative Productions in Dallas in November 1974; the company’s name is an acronym for “Jon And Mary Lyn.” Since then, JAM’s jingles have been heard on thousands of radio stations, spanning from Los Angeles to New York City and on international airwaves, including past work for WABC, Z100 (WHTZ), KOST, WLS, and BBC Radio 1 and 2.
The Wolferts will be honored at the TRHOF’s Induction Ceremony and Radio Reunion Weekend on November 7 at the Texas Broadcast Museum in Kilgore, TX.
TRHOF Executive Director Doug Harris said, “Jingles are an essential ingredient in creating and sustaining ‘station-ality.’ At their best, jingles are the glue that connects a station’s music and spoken word content while earning a place in the listener’s memory.”
