Report: ESPN to Come After WFAN

According to The New York Post, ESPN New York, now run by Good Karma Broadcasting, plans to change all programming to local in an attempt to chip away at Audacy’s WFAN which crushes ESPN in the New York ratings.

The paper is reporting that on January 3rd, the ESPN’s morning show with Rick DiPietro and Dave Rothenberg will expand to 4 hours and compete directly with “Boomer & Gio.” The ESPN lineup now has DiPietro and Rothenberg from 5-8 a.m. in New York and “Keyshawn, JWill and Max” on from 8-10 a.m. Mike Greenberg show will continue from 10 a.m.-noon, according to the Post, and Bart Scott and Alan Hahn’s program will return to being 100 percent local, from noon-3 p.m. on 98.7 FM. “The Michael Kay Show” will continue from 3-7 p.m.

The changes would give ESPN New York all local programming from 6 a.m. to midnight, other than Mike Greenberg’s two hours. ESPN declined to comment to the Post on their reporting.
