The National Association of Broadcasters has awarded David L. Hershberger, the 2021 Engineering Achievement Award for Radio. He is a former employee and current consultant for Continental Electronics Corporation in Dallas.

During his 40 year career, Hershberger’s work focused on exciters and modulators for transmitters as well as low-level signal processing. Hershberger was also a co-developer of the first digital FM exciter in 1986 and helped create new X-band uplink transmitters for the JPL/NASA Deep Space Network. He was awarded 21 patents throughout his career and has one that is still pending approval. The patents span a wide variety of technology in AM and FM radio as well as broadcast television.

“None of this work happens in a vacuum, it’s all teamwork,” said Hershberger.
