Monumental Radio Events Pull in Big Numbers

That’s what Media Monitors says happened on the final broadcast day for 50-year Boston rocker WAAF. Entercom sold the station to EMF last week and the staff said goodbye on Friday.

The day was filled with special guest appearances, including former morning personality Greg Hill, Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton, Lajon Witherspoon from Sevendust and Brent Smith from Shinedown.

Media Monitors analyzed changes in PPM listening for the station on Friday using its programming tool, Audio Overnights. Here’s what they discovered…

Entercom picked up $10 million from EMF for the station, a price many people in the industry we spoke to believed was very low for a signal in the Boston area. EMF is a very patient buyer. The format was flipped to KLOVE on Saturday. The WAAF rock music will continue on HD but without the live/local talent who were all let go.

  1. It’s like a going out of business sale for a store that everyone grew up with but hadn’t shopped at in years. All of a sudden the vultures come out of the woodwork to pick the carcass clean.
