WDIA, iHeartMedia, has been added to the U.S. Civil Rights Trail. The trail includes more than 100 locations across the country that were important to the Civil Rights movement of the ’50s and ’60s.

WDIA-AM 1070, “The Heart & Soul of Memphis”, went on the air in 1947 and was the first station in the country programmed entirely for the black community. Many music legends, including B.B. King, got their start working at WDIA.

Along with the radio station, the Beale Street Historic District in Memphis has also been added to the trail.
