Morning host Monte Belmonte, of Saga’s WRSI-FM/Northhampton, MA (93.9 The River), is leading his 10th annual Monte’s March to fight hunger. The two-day event will take place November 25-26, and benefit the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts.
Belmonte will be costumed and pushing a shopping cart while leading marchers on the two-day, 43-mile hike from Springfield to Greenfield. Among those joining the three-county trek will be U.S. Representative Jim McGovern.
Last year Monte’s March For A Million Meals raised more than $294,000, providing more than 880,000 meals. Since 2010 the effort has raised more than a million dollars.
This enormous effort on the part of Monte and many, many others to alleviate hunger in our community is a prime example of the good that radio can do, right here at home. I am so proud to be part of Monte’s March, and a radio station which really reflects all that is good in our community. Go Monte! Go marchers!
