Entercom Accuses Dunlap Of Extortion

The story in New Orleans involving WWL host Seth Dunlap gets stranger by the day. We reported yesterday that Entercom has turned the case of the homophobic tweet over to the New Orleans Police Department for further investigation. Now we know why. Entercom believes Dunlap, an openly gay man, posted the tweet to the WWL account himself and attempted to extort nearly $2 million from the company.

The police report, uncovered by The Times-Picayune, says WWL management hired a forensic expert who determined the tweet was sent from an IP address associated with Dunlap’s phone. The station also says that it had been receiving letters that Dunlap’s wages were being garnished for unpaid personal debts. The report says cameras show Dunlap in his office with the door closed when the tweet was sent. Then the cameras show him opening the door and showing a co-worker the tweet and “apparently talking about the tweet.”

As we reported, Dunlap’s attorney’s say he passed a polygraph test earlier this week.

The paper also reports that the police document says that the station is accusing Dunlap of threatening the station that he would go “scorched earth” over the tweet and demanding more than $1.8 million in compensation while he was facing personal financial troubles.

Law enforcement is still attempting to corroborate WWL’s accusations. Police have classified the case as a possible extortion.

  1. People with their backs against the wall with finances will do desperate things. Good idea for management to be alert of this. You find out these items by MBWA-management by wandering around.
