Radio Interview Turns Ugly

Things got testy on WMPR’s Wanda Evers show when two local lawmakers got into a profanity laced argument live on the air. It is politics after all, so it would seem to be par for the course in today’s political climate. The station went to break when the vulgarities started to fly, however, it was all streamed live on Facebook. Here are the details from this silliness.

State Rep. Deborah Dixon was the guest when State Rep. Credell Calhoun arrived at the station because he heard Dixon was talking about him. Dixon says she responded to Calhoun after he called her the “B” word.

Evers told the local ABC affiliate she has banned Calhoun from her show.

  1. From here:
It would take uninformed and/or otherwise indoctrinated citizens to wonder how the dishes are getting smashed. Likewise about the stolen silverware.
The situation is not only obvious – it’s ugly.
By all means, people need to be verbally expressing themselves in any ways to which they have access.
It may not be too late.
But, then again, it might be too late.
One thing that is also obvious – and this is so to observers around the world – America is less star-spangled awesome than at any time in modern history.
It’s painful to watch our best neighbours tearing themselves apart.

  2. The suggested approach still stands.
Too many people are willing to accept abuse without a response because it may be impolite.
Those days may have left for parts unknown – at least, for now.

  3. From here:
Republican thugs have already broken the dish ware.
    “Decorum” has left the building.
    Miss Manners looks foolish.
In the current environment, insisting on “polite discourse” is a disastrous strategy for maintaining one’s personal dignity – while losing horribly.

    • Two Democrats have a verbal discussion that gets to be a profanity-laced argument and “Republican thugs” are to blame.
Maybe because keeping a stiff upper lip in the face of the now standard, aggressively biased media (objectively listen to any of the major network top of the hour newscasts) hadn’t fared well for Republicans is why the dishes are breaking?
