88.5 KNKX was a big winner at the 2019 PRNDI (Public Radio News Directors, Inc.) Conference on June 15, garnering four national awards, all for the station’s locally-produced storytelling show, Sound Effect — “stories inspired by the place we live.”

KNKX won the following in PRNDI’s 2019 Awards Competition for stories that aired in 2018:

·       First Place, Arts Feature for “Fantasy A’s Fantasy is a Stable Home in Seattle”

·       First Place, Short Documentary for “A Homeless Man Helped Me with My Fear of the Woods”

·       Second Place, Commentary for “To Dye or Not to Dye?: Reflections on Going Gray in a Society That Judges Graying Women”

·       Second Place, Sports Feature for “These Women Hit 50. Then They Took Up Basketball.”

“It’s gratifying to see KNKX and Sound Effect receive national recognition for telling the stories of the Pacific Northwest and the people who call this home,” says KNKX News Director Erin Hennessey. “This is a special place and there are so many stories yet to tell.”
