After an impressive 50-year radio career, Marty Manning is calling it a day. Manning got his start in radio in 1969 at KCAC 1010-AM voicing commercials and working as a part-time on-air host. His career has taken him from Arizona to Texas, California, Ohio, and eventually back to Phoenix in 1985 when he became the Creative Director for 99.9. Manning’s last day on air will be June 21, 2019.
Manning has been the “Man on the Street” for 99.9 for over 30 years and is a staunch advocate for the local community. He hosted and produced the Valley Views public affairs program, conducting approximately 750 interviews with local organizations. In all, he has hosted and participated in countless community events and programs including 99.9 KEZ’s Excellence In Education program, recognizing Arizona’s educators, which he has piloted for 14 years.
“Marty’s contributions over the years will benefit 99.9 KEZ and the community for many years to come. Marty’s talent, devotion and community focus have been exemplary,” said Paul Kelley, PD of 99.9 KEZ. “I want to thank Marty for all he’s done for the development and progress of 99.9 KEZ over the years.”
“Marty and I started at the radio station within eight months of each other and have been friends and colleagues ever since,” said morning host Beth McDonald. “It’s hard to fathom coming in and not having him here, but his retirement is well deserved! He’s one of the smartest and kindest people I know. I consider Marty to be the conscience of the radio station. He makes us want to be better. And I feel that I am, just for having known him. I’ll miss him.”
