Guest Hang-up Gets Hosts National Attention

Who knew hanging up on a boring guest was big news these days? Beasley’s Toucher & Rich in Boston are getting national attention after Fred Toucher decided he had enough of Chip Alexander’s southern accent. Alexander writes for The Raleigh News & Observer. The Carolina Hurricanes are playing the Boston Bruins in the NHL playoffs.

The interview was short when Toucher felt like it was time to end it. So he did. “He had a southern accent. I can’t take it. Hockey and southern accents. I didn’t think he was saying anything particularly interesting, and it was getting on my nerves.”

That had every media outlet from The New York Post to USA Today writing about the station. Alexander tried to call back but Toucher was having none of that. The newspaper write was getting support from his Twitter followers after the hang-up, calling it “radio rudeness.”

Sports Illustrated covered the story HERE and completely butchered the spelling of Fred’s last name several times (and got it correct several times as well) which is funny because Rich has the harder name to spell (Shertenlieb).
