He was the host of the “KGO Morning News” in San Francisco for over three decades. As The San Francisco Chronicle reports, during his early days on the air, Dunbar survived an assassination attempt thanks to bullet proof glass at the station. Dunbar, who was 89 when he died, was the first San Francisco personality to be inducted into the Radio Broadcasters Hall of Fame, in 2000.

From 1960 to 1963, Dunbar was a DJ and assistant program director at WLS/Chicago. From Chicago, it was off to San Francisco for his place in radio history.
