Carton Stabs WFAN In The Back Before Prison

6

The disgraced former WFAN morning host told Michael Kay on WFAN’s biggest competitor in New York, ESPN 98.7-FM, that WFAN turned him down for an interview so he reached out to Kay. Carton was part of the highly successful morning show with Boomer Esiason before his gambling issues caught up with him and was arrested.

Carton is headed to prison for 42 months after being found guilty of misappropriating money given to him for a ticket business he was running.

Carton told Kay’s audience that he didn’t want anyone to think this was a radio wars thing. “I went to WFAN first. It was uncomfortable for them. They have a new show (Boomer and Gio). They’ve moved on.”

Carton went on to say that WFAN has been great to him. The station even wrote a letter of support to the judge during sentencing. “I was blessed to have the job I had.”

He then said he enjoyed seeing that ratings for the Boomer and Gio show are not a strong as they were when he was on. So much for his statement that his Kay appearance wasn’t going to be a shot at WFAN. Surely that was.

Despite all of that, and rather than remaining loyal to the station that he claims to love so dearly, Carton chose ego over loyalty and went on The Michael Kay Show. He did it, he says, because he wanted to apologize to the audience.

During the interview he boasted about the markers he had at different casinos, how he would jump in a helicopter and gamble before going on the air and how his family had no idea what was going on.

With this appearance, Carton appears to be trying to rehabilitate his reputation, perhaps with hopes of lining up a gig after he does his time. He told Kay the judge in his case acknowledged he didn’t intend to hurt people and he didn’t use any of the money from his charity to gamble or pay his gambling debts. Carton says when a hedge fund paid him $2 million for tickets to Barbara Streisand and Metallica concerts, he bought the tickets using his credit card and used their money to gamble.

He admitted he never thought about getting help for his gambling addiction. And, he admitted his ego got in his way. Carton and his wife are now legally separated. He said, “If she decides I put her through too much I will respect that.”

Kay called Carton out for saying some very horrible things about him while on the air at WFAN. Carton said that was all part of the show. “I was good as a performer.”

Carton also said that despite the fact he hasn’t been on the radio in nearly two years he could come out of jail, get back on the radio, and be the number one host in New York. So, he heads off to prison with his ego 100% in tact.

  1. Carton show very little remorse and did this as a calculated plan for the future..just one thing on his supposed sex abused…everyone turns to drugs alcohol or even being abusive himself ..never ever heard that made a person gambler addiction..x neck yourself for real carton or your never get better..

  2. This is a very bad interpretation of what went on in that interview. Carton did not trash WFAN or boast about his markers. He was asked questions and responded. Guys like you will make it difficult for the guy to ever get a second chance.

  3. Although I couldn’t stand him on the radio and don’t like him now, he definitely did not trash WFAN. This is just click bait.

  4. E-G-O…Edging God Out. This guy needs a great deal of help; hopefully he can rehabilitate himself. He’ll certainly have time to work on the “new self”…if he so chooses.
