The Nebraska Radio Network and The South Carolina Network were both shut down Tuesday. A statement from Learfield spokeswoman Jennifer Duncan to several regional newspapers said the two networks underperformed for several years and showed little opportunity for growth.

The Nebraska Radio Network provided news content to about three dozen affiliates throughout the state. The South Carolina Radio Network aired across the state.

Learfield also owns news radio networks in Iowa, Missouri, Minnesota and Wisconsin, as well as the Brownfield Ag News network, which is carried by Nebraska radio stations.

The company plans to focus more on the Midwest. Duncan wrote in an e-mail to The Lincoln Journal Star that Learfield will reallocate resources to grow the Brownfield g News Network and add focus to the core news networks.
