Hoax Caller Gets On The Air At WBUR

During the December 20 airing of “On Point,” with food critic Soleil Ho a caller claiming to be “Dominic” from “Aspen, Colorado” made racist comments about African-American restaurant patrons. The caller claimed he was the “a vice president of a chain of restaurants called Chart House.”

Host Meghna Chakrabarti condemned the comments several times during the remainder of the show.

WBUR apologized n a statement on its website and called the company that owns the Chart House. Steve Scheinthal, executive vice president and general counsel for Landry’s, Inc., the Houston, Texas-based company that owns the Chart House restaurant chain, said, There is no Dominic that’s a vice president of Chart House, and no vice president of Chart House called.”

The WBUR statement said: “On Point screens its callers to create the most robust hour of live conversation possible. We apologize that this hoax got on the air.”
