Bikes Or Bust A Boon For Toys For Tots

Community Broadcasts’ WHWY-FM in Fort Walton Beach held its Bikes or Bust event recently and collected more than 2,000 bicycles for Toys For Tots. Afternoon host Bo Reynolds spent four days living atop a 30-foot platform raising awareness for the 8th annual running of the event.

Reynolds made it through several days of heavy rain encouraging listeners to donate bikes. “The drive was well worth it. Each one of these bikes represents a child that on Christmas morning is going to wake up and have something that they otherwise wouldn’t have,” said Reynolds after climbing down from his perch. “If we can make their Christmas just a little brighter, that’s what we set out to do.”

The giving this year exceeded last year as listeners made a special effort because of the devastation from Hurricane Michael in October. “This year marked the most bicycles ever raised during Bikes or Bust — with 500 more bicycle donations compared to last year,” said Lisa Buchman, Promotions Director. “It’s been amazing to witness both the power of our station and the outpouring of support from our community.”

Four-hundred of the bikes will be sent to the Panama City area where the impact of the hurricane was the greatest.
