Langmyer Leaving Milwaukee

Tom Langmyer ran WTMJ (AM and FM) and WKTI-FM for the last 5 years. On Thursday he posted to Facebook that once the sale of the Scripps stations to Good Karma Broadcasting closes he’ll be moving on. Steve Wexler, who now runs the radio division for Scripps, will be taking over in Milwaukee. Good Karma CEO Craig Karmazin did not return our request for comment on the change.

Langmyer says WTMJ and WKTI are incredible stations because of people, which includes 40-year broadcasters and those who are just starting their careers. “I’m fortunate to work with these talented individuals – and excited about where their lives will take them. Scripps is a wonderful company and I’ve been honored to lead for them. Looking forward to continuing to evangelize for LOCAL radio after I’ve completed my assignment with these precious sets of call-letters.”

The sale is expected to close later this fall.

This is a return to Milwaukee for Wexler who began his radio career as an intern at WTMJ in the late 70’s. The station was owned by Journal Communications back then. Wexler was on the air in the 70’s and 80’s before taking a management position with Hearst. In 2007 he was back at WTMJ as the GM. He also took on a corporate roll with Journal before eventually taking on the entire 34-station radio division with Journal, a position he held with Scripps when those two companies merged in 2015.

Wexler has been on Radio Ink’s 40 Most Powerful People in Radio list for the past 4 years, reaching as high as #33 this year.
