Jazz public radio station WBGO/Newark, NJ, has received two national awards from Public Radio News Directors Incorporated. PRNDI recognizes the best of local public radio news in a wide array of categories, and has recognized WBGO every year for the past 20 years, awarding the station 86 times since 1998. The WBGO Journal, hosted by News Director Doug Doyle, won first place for “Best Public Affairs” in Division C (news rooms with fewer than three full-time staff), while Bob Hennelly’s investigative feature Idleness Puts NJ Youth at High Risk for Opiod Addiction was recognized in the “Best Investigative/Enterprise” category.

“WBGO is thrilled to be honored by our peers in public radio,” said Doyle. “There are so many great stations doing excellent and relevant work, we are excited that the WBGO Journal continues to be recognized as one of the best shows in the country.”

The awards banquet took place Saturday, June 23, in Philadelphia.
