Ratings Trouble In Los Angeles

1

Seven months of ratings will be reissued in the number two market, according to Nielsen. Here’s the note the ratings firm sent to clients: “Effective with the April monthly currency data (March 29 – April 25), Nielsen removed four homes from the Los Angeles PPM panel. An internal review determined that these homes did not meet our compliance and data integrity standards. In addition, we conducted an analysis of data from October 2017 to March 2018 and we have determined that the data for these months will be reissued. Therefore, we will publish revised audio data for these months in Los Angeles starting with March monthly data on Tuesday, May 22, at Noon Local Time. ”

  1. Nielsen ratings seem to be further off from what the public is really watching. Take for instance this huge Twitter, Facebook and email campaign going on to #SaveLucifer and #PickupLucifer the Fox television show cancelled due to what they claim were low ratings. Interesting that the protest against Fox cancelling the show is worldwide. Popular show that wasn’t properly rated by the so called representative diary holders… the true viewing habits of show fans say otherwise. The size and scope of this movement/protest for a single show makes me question the validity of Nielsen’s ratings and how they gather information for television at the very least. Nielsen, look to how you do business, I think a Social movement is going to have others questioning this too.
