Beasley Reports 2.6% Revenue Increase In Q1

The $1.4 million increase reflects the inclusion of WBZ-FM Boston, partially offset by the disposition of WMJX-FM Boston and the Greenville-New Bern-Jacksonville stations. The company says revenue at the company’s other clusters was “comparable” to net revenue in the same period of 2017. So it was basically flat compared to Q1 2017. Here are some of the details about the quarter from CEO Caroline Beasley…

Beasley says national revenue remains challenged and local is “holding its own.”

Consumer services was Beasley’s largest revenue category in the quarter and that category was up in the high single digits. Retail, the company’s second-largest ad spending category, was down.

In Boston, expenses for WBZ’s coverage of the playoffs and Super Bowl added about $800,000 to the company’s expense line.
