WBGL Joins The Fight Against Human Trafficking

For the fifth year in a row, WBGL/Champaign, IL, formed a team to participate in the Christie Clinic Illinois Marathon to raise awareness about human trafficking. All team members were asked to fundraise, with all proceeds benefiting International Justice Mission. IJM is the world’s largest international anti-slavery organization, working to fight modern-day slavery, human trafficking, and other forms of violence against the poor. Together, WBGL listeners and those in the races raised over $83,000 and fully funded 12 Freedom Packages through International Justice Mission – each package includes a rescue operation and aftercare for those rescued.

Midday personality Meridith Foster said, “It is a privilege to partner with WBGL listeners, who repeatedly prove they are a tribe of chain-breaking, justice-pursuing rescuers. Hundreds have joined together to do what they could to raise more than $83,000, and as a result 12 victims of trafficking will be rescued and will be provided with aftercare. Our listeners love the mission of IJM and are willing to go to great lengths to live out Jesus’ call to set the captives free.”
