iHeart, Entercom Fight In Chicago

Media writer Robert Feder has the story about Entercom’s WBBM sending a cease-and-desist order to iHeartMedia’s WKSC-FM for using the phrase “Showbiz Shelly.” Michelle “Showbiz Shelly” Menaker was fired by WBBM earlier this month. She continued to use “Showbiz Shelly” after iHeart hired her, calling her daily quiz show Showbiz Shelly Smackdown. Feder says Entercom is ready to sue if iHeart doesn’t stop using the phrase.

WBBM PD Todd Cavanah told Feder this was a standard move. “We own the name. . . It’s really simple.” WKSC morning show co-host Christopher “Fred” Frederick said on the air, “I think it’s a low blow. I think it’s a low, low blow. . . So dumb. Get a life, guys. Focus on your issues over there, right?”

Menaker said this is probably a good opportunity, a good time for a new name.
