New Morning Show For WBBM/Chicago

DreX and Nina, a new morning show on B96, WBBM-FM/Chicago, will air weekdays from 5:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. PT. Gabe Ramirez, host of the previous B96 morning show, The J Show, will continue as morning host along with DreX and Nina.

“Entercom is at it again, playing offense in Chicago radio,” said Jimmy de Castro, Senior Vice President and Market Manager, Entercom Chicago. “Today we welcome DreX and Nina to the Windy City to partner with Gabe and wake up our fans every morning to laugh, sing, and dance with B96, Chicago’s #1 Hit Music destination.”

DreX previously worked in the Chicago market at WKSC-FM from 2002 to 2010. Prior to that, he worked mornings at KTFM in San Antonio and WHYT in Detroit. Nina most recently worked mornings at WBMP-FM in New York City and has also worked at KBKS and KJR-AM in Seattle and KZZO in Sacramento.

  1. I hate the new show..I’ve tried giving it a shot but realize it’s not going to work for me. Drex and Nina are annoying to listen to..I love Gabe and feel bad for him..Shelly moved to 103.5 and tried doing a replica of what she did on B96 and it’s not working for her there. Both of those stations are too similar to each other with non stop talking. I miss the old gang at B96..what wrong with these people in charge. Why would they think Drex and Nina would fit an urban radio station? We do live in Chicago. I went back to Sirius radio. Too bad too

  2. I hate the new show!! I haven’t listened since “J” and Showbiz were let go. I didn’t like DreX years ago and stopped listening to 103.5 then. Will not return to your station until someone new comes in and is better!!

  3. Have been a long time B-96 listener since 1988 and I’m getting flashbacks of when Eddie & Jobo got ousted.. wasn’t happy but Jay, Shelly & Gabe quickly grew on me.. just heard the new show and I’m happy to still here Gabe but not feeling Nina & Rex at all..so sad😒

  5. New show is garbage. What kind of an idiot could screw this up any worse. I would like to shake the hand of the dumbest person I may ever meet.

    • Same guy who messed up 670 the score’s afternoon drive! He got rid of my guy Jason Goff cuz he talked too much about social issues now he gets rid of J? Hmm

  6. I have to say THANK YOU B96! I’m so glad you got rid of the j show and brought drex in. I enjoyed his show on 103.5 and he left, I was forced back to b96. I always made it a point to not listen to B96 during the 5am to 10am show because I couldn’t stand Jay and shelly. It was to childish for me, borderline stupid at times. I want to be entertained not feel like I’m losing brain cells listening to the show. Yes drex has a different approach and change is hard to accept, but this long time listener growing up is grateful to be back on the b96 band wagon. THANK YOU! AND WELCOME BACK TO CHICAGO!!   7. I have been a die hard B96 listener since the 80’s. Shelly and Jay and Gabe were a great way to start my day. I will NOT turn your station on again… Sorry to see an end of my childhood memories.

  9. I truly miss the old dream team. Feel bad for Gabe for trying to hang in there. You lost a long time listener of this station. I’m glad I found Shelly on the other station. Too bad you have lost so many loyal listeners

  12. I was so disappointed to find a change to my morning commute. I cannot listen to B96 any longer, the hosts talk too much and are terribly boring.

  17. The J show was the only show I listened to. They had great chemistry and positive vibe. True radio voices. The only reason I would change the channel was because of a repeative playlist which is standard for a top hits station or loooong commercials. The new guy Drex does not match the format. He is too old and acts too old. The way he responds to his booths mates is pretentious and quite boring. I doubt he even knows the music that is being played. He doesn’t even seem to like the music. Gabe and Niki are trying to play nice but he just keeps putting everyone down. I will no longer listen to B 96.

  18. So much for my 5th grader being able to listen on our daily drive to school/work. We have an agreement, in the am he could listen to B96. Not my cup of tea however, it became a ritual. Well just like everything else that does not sell on its own merit, Lets add sex & smut talk!! Pretty sad considering your demographic is 10-25 yr olds. Yep, because teens are not hit in the face daily with sex in the media, Major fail. In addition, who is this woman? She is literally about as exciting as a wet wash cloth!! So back to Sirius we go.

  19. The old morning show was NOT performing that’s the bottom line. They haven’t been for YEARS. Peel back all the surface and you had a very redundant ‘same ol thing everyday’ type of show. Sorry it’s the truth.

  20. The new show is horrible, I thought I was listening to am omg…I will listen after 10am. Thanks.. Poor B96 I can see it now…shuts its doors because poor ratings…but if you make a change soon you might be able to dig yourself out this whole you made….I don’t mind change but you go up not down smh

  21. Hopefully, another small radio station will pick them up and put themselves on the map with Julian, Gabe & Shelly.

    Send Drex back to San Antonio because he sounds like a whining baby on the show.

    • Shelly starting today is on 103.5 with Fred and Angie in the mornings for the show biz Shelly smack down, and then a does her own show from 10-2 I think. I thought that B96 just had horrible guest announcers on but then kept hearing them every day I would flip back and forth. Well, no more flipping for me, I’ll stick with 1035 Kiss FM now.

  22. The so-called new B96 show is brutal!!!!I have been listening to B96 since the 80’s with Karen Hand, Eddie & JoBo. With J Nice & showbiz Shelly they took it to a new level, which everybody enjoyed.
    I tried for 1 week straight and can’t do it anymore. You might as well cancel the show because you will have no more listeners. After over 30 years of listening to 96.3, it has been deleted from my truck forever.

    Nice job on the horrible switch!!

  25. I listened to the new show once and you can hear poor Gabe trying to save the new hosts.
    Drex and Nina need to go. They sound like they belong on 93.9 the lite.
    Good job to upper management. You just single handedly flushed your morning ratings down the drain.

  29. I am in my 50’s and listened to B96 with my 16 year old daughter because of J and Shelly. The voices of the new hosts are not made for radio, they are annoying, actually intolerable. We are looking for a morning show on a different station.

  31. “J”, Shelly and Gabe were so good together! I enjoyed their topics, music, games, listener involvement, everything about the show. I tried to listen to your new hosts but they were dry and dull. If you have any sense, you’ll bring “J” and Shelly back. I’m no longer listening to B96.

  37. They pulled the same thing on Eddie/JoBo/Erika. That’s right, long time listener here. Took me a bit to get used to J and Julian. Then came another change. I liked the J/Shelly/Gabe combo. I NEVER liked DREX. He makes it easy to tune out. Good luck getting the listeners you thought you were getting by axing J Show. New stint is TERRIBLE. Make Chicago (Radio) Great Again! Please!

  38. Bring back J and Showbiz Shelley! I thought they were on vacation and was horrified to hear about the decision made by executives. Hate the new Drex and Nina. Too much sex talk. Gabe, love you too, as part of the J Show. You dont mix well with the replacements. You are better and if we cant have J and Shelly, can we just have the Gabe Show? Gone is my morning laughter. Listened everyday for almost a decade. Now i no longer tune in to B96.

  39. If you guys loved Jay so much, you should have encouraged your friends and family to listen. They were in the 18th spot holding less than 3% of the audience share. Seems like a handful of people making a lot of noise….

  42. I have officially stopped listening to B96 in the morning. Listening to the new hosts are like nails on a chalkboard.
    Time for some exec changes at B96. In sports, they make changes at the executive level. Time for radio to follow suit.

  43. You guys I remember listening to Drex in the mornings on 103.5 and he wasn’t bad back then! Give him chance he will make your mornings good!   47. I can’t stand the new morning show either. Didn’t like Drew when he was on 103.5 and Nina isn’t as upbeat as Shelly. Makes my morning commute boring as hell now. B96 lost a long time listeners, I refuse to listen to this new morning crappy talk show. J had a soothing voice and Shelly voice were great for the morning, they were perfect and it was like having a cup of coffee when listening to them. I tried to listen to Drew and Nina but my ears were being raped every morning. Now it feels like I’m drinking a cup of turd, ugh!

  48. The whiney banter is like nails on a chalkboard. J and Shelly, with Gabe was a great combo. The smutty convo that tries to pass for humor is lame and pointless. Bad decision.

  49. What a joke! Me (38) and my two boys (16 and 13) listened every morning on our drive to school/work. Not anymore!!!! J and showbiz will be missed! What a crappy crappy change! Bring back my trio!!!!!! Not Drex and whoever Nina is- ick.

  50. B96 morning drive tradition is over. New show is so horrible that I rather drive in silence. Worst mistake on the new show and host except Gabe…b96 has been part of me as much as the biggest icon radio station for chicago…it will never be the same…I rather find new station…b96 u lost a loyal lister…

  51. Hate the new show. B96 with J and showbiz was my morning drive EVERY morning. They were so upbeat,funny kept you listening and would get your morning going. I’ve always HATED DreX and his annoying, whiny voice. Nina is so dry and boring. Who every made this change needs to be fired. You have lost a listener, very poor trio combination.

  53. I listened every day on my drive in to work. I heard these new voices and sorry to say I’m not a fan. These people are no where near as fun as J and Showbiz. Miss them. Stopped listening.

  54. I used to listen to the show on my way to school. I was very disappointed when I heard the new girls voice because it sucked. Both voices are not good for radio. Bring back the j show and get rid of them ASAP. Will never listen to it again.

  56. I miss shelly, and Jay, and gabe, they are the trio! I put on the radio and I was like WTF!??? Who the heck is this and then i heard going gabe???? I was like maybe there on vacation ……but I checked and never thought this would happen? But who ever made this decision is the worst decision I’m never listening ever again! Bring the TRIO BACK ASAP! BEFORE THEY GET PICKED UP!

  57. Biggest mistake ever!!!! I use to wake up with the three of them. And now I can’t even listen to it. It’s horrible!!! Worst show ever. I miss J-Nice and Shelly. I will no longer listen to that radio station!!!

  58. Topics are forced. They bring up sex too much….sex sells or will keep listeners tuned. All that did was tune me out. They others hosts were more approachable to a wider audience, younger listeners.

  59. I agree, biggest mistake ever. Never liked Drek and wont!! hes so annoying doesnt stop talking about himself. As for Nina she doesnt have that wake up voice she sounds like she still asleep herself. So sad!! morning talk is so boring now. Lost me with this move. Was a long time fan but sad to say this time you really did it. I got over the Eddie and Jobo change because J and Showbiz Shelly were perfect!!!! Who ever made this decision should be fired!!!!.   60. This is horrible! The J Show is so great! J and Shelly’s personalities were unbeatable. They were happy, funny, respectful to their callers and always made topics interesting to listen too. I would like to know who decided to mess with a good thing and why?!?! I will miss them terribly! And I don’t think I will continue to listen in the morning which is very sad to say as I looked forward to them every day on the way to work.

  65. This morning I thought this was some delayed April fools joke or I was still dreaming! “The J Show, will continue as morning host along with DreX and Nina.” I did not hear either Jay or Shelly this morning…. So sad….

  67. Just listened to the show this morning and HATED it. WHERE IS THE J SHOW??? I will now be removing B96 from my preset on my car. Good luck but I miss J and Shelly.
