Warner Wolf Files Lawsuit Against Imus

The 80 year old sportscaster, who was fired by Imus back in December, says in the suit that Imus routinely cracked “inappropriate” jokes about his age, such as “time to put Wolf out to pasture” and “shoot him with an elephant dart gun.” Wolf had been part of the program since 1996. Apparently, according to The Daily News, things turned ugly when Wolf attempted to broadcast his part of the show from Naples, FL.

The Daily News reports that Imus told Wolf in an e-mail, “You asked me if I was ok with you doing sports from Florida. I said I was. We tried it. It sucks. If you’re in the studio in New York … it’s terrific. Anything else is not.” Wolf says broadcasting from Naples was Imus’ excuse to fire him. Wolf “was discriminatorily terminated … based upon his age,” the suit says.

The suit also claims that Cumulus did not honor Wolf’s $97,500 severance. Cumulus is not named as a defendant. Senior VP Mike McVay, and WABC’s PD Craig Schwalb are.

Finally, the lawsuit also claims that following a Daily News article about Wolf’s termination, Imus wrote to Wolf, “don’t go to war with me.”
