Florida Pirate Settles With FCC. Closes Shop.

The FCC has entered into a Consent Decree to resolve its investigation into whether Kedner Maxime was operating a pirate radio station on 102.1 and 89.1 MHz from two different locations in Broward County, Florida. Maxime admits that he operated an unauthorized radio station, will not operate an unauthorized radio station in the future, and will pay a $2,500 civil penalty. However, Maxime will pay an addition civil penalty of $12,500 if the Commission finds that he operates an unauthorized radio station during the next 20 years or misled the Commission regarding his current financial status.

  1. This shows the lack of intelligence of this pirate. You do not have to pay these fines. What are they gonna do throw you in prison? Most all of unlicensed operators just file 13 the FCC letters and go on with life. By paying these or even consider negotiations with them is like admitting they own the radio spectrum and can take something God created and make a profit from it. The FCC makes more then enough from our tax dollars so make them actually work for the money. I guess sometimes intimidation works. But on the up side yes it is indeed cheaper to run unlicensed then licensed.

  2. Odd…that is less than if an actual licensed broadcaster didn’t have just one three-month programming report in his public file.
