The Sound Is Silenced

After spending the morning saying goodbye, Classic Rock KSWD (The Sound)/Los Angeles left the airwaves at 1 p.m. PT Thursday. The station was sold to Educational Media Foundation in the runup to the Entercom/CBS Radio merger, and has flipped to EMF’s Christian Contemporary programming as K-Love 100.3 FM.

Los Angeles radio legend Joe Benson hosted the last shift, and Andy Chanley — who signed on at The Sound 10 years ago — signed it off, after playing side two of The Beatles’ Abbey Road. As Chanley pointed out, that was the final music heard on beloved AOR KMET before it flipped to Smooth Jazz KTWV on Valentine’s Day in 1987.

With the flip came the new call letters: 100.3 FM is now KKLQ/Los Angeles.
