Philadelphia’s Rod Carson Passes

2

KYW in Philadelphia is reporting that Rod Carson, one of the founders of Shadow Traffic, KYW Newsradio, died over the weekend at his home in Lehighton, Carbon County. He was 75. Carson was best known for the traffic reports on CBS Radio’s KYW. Carson’s Facebook page, which states he died of natural causes, is being flooded with comments.

Carson was born in Philadelphia and grew up in Coatesville where he got his first job on the former WCOJ. Before getting into traffic reporting, he was one of the Wibbage Good Guys on the former WIBG, and also did the Rock and Roll Roots show on WMMR. He also worked in Allentown and later for several other Philadelphia stations. In 2007, he marked 50 years in broadcasting.

Services are pending and the family is planning a memorial service to be held in Philadelphia.

  1. I didn’t know of his passing. Enjoyed him on WDAS FM in the morning, back in the early 70s. Very belated condolences to family and friends.

  2. Rod is missed. Me and my buddy John Cicchino used to listen to Rod Carson’s Rock and Roll Roots and the Root Salutes. btw – does anyone have any audio recordings of the Root Salutes? I couldn’t find any on youtube…
