Hungerthon & Radio’s Fight Against American Hunger

0

It’s criminal that the richest country in history still has a severe hunger problem. But not everybody is taking it lying down. WhyHunger’s Hungerthon tradition kicks off Thursday, after a record-breaking year raising $1.1 million to help end hunger in America. The campaign once again taps into the power of radio personalities, listeners, celebrities, and fans to multiply its impact over two months of activation.

Each fall, CBS Radio New York’s news/talk and sports stations — News Radio 880 WCBS, 1010 WINS, Sports Radio 101.9 FM and Sports Radio 66 WFAN — together with WhyHunger, raise awareness about hunger and poverty and engage the public through radio broadcasts, social media, and an extensive celebrity-driven online auction. Funds raised are invested in community-driven solutions to hunger that transform and last. This year, the stations’ ongoing support efforts will culminate in “Hungerthon Day” on Tuesday, November 21 featuring an appeal for donations and information on auction items and closings.

“We believe that nutritious food is human right and hunger is a solvable problem,” said Noreen Springstead, WhyHunger Executive Director. “There is power in community, and Hungerthon is the perfect time to come together, take action and make a difference in the fight against hunger. With the help of the community and these iconic CBS Radio New York stations, we can continue our work to help more families access healthy, affordable food and advance social justice.”

With over 41 million Americans struggling with hunger, WhyHunger aforementioned stations ask everyone to join the campaign. Here’s how to take action and get involved:
