Mix/Chicago Fires Kathy Hart

Hubbard Radio’s WTMX (101.9 The Mix) is parting ways with Eric & Kathy co-host Kathy Hart, who abruptly vanished from the successful morning show back in April. On Thursday, Hubbard announced that Hart won’t be back. Hubbard Chicago Market Manager Jeff England said, “We wish her all the best as she moves on to the next stage of her career.” Co-host Eric Ferguson and the other show members will remain in place in what England called “a new era of morning radio on the station.” And it will be new: Eric & Kathy had been in mornings on The Mix for 21 years.

Hubbard Radio President/COO Drew Horowitz said, “We will always be grateful to Kathy for her contributions over more than two decades with the station.”

Eric & Kathy had been hugely successful in Chicago, and the pair were inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame just last year and have two Marconis. But Hart began what the station called a leave of absence in April, even missing the annual “Eric & Kathy’s Kids” radiothon. Her contract runs through the end of December, and she had been in negotiations with WTMX.

Back in August, Hart resurfaced briefly, sending a note to Chicago media writer Robert Feder, saying in part, “Please stay tuned as I fully intend to be back on the air.”
