Host Resigns After Attending Alt-Right Rally

Dave Reilly submitted his resignation Wednesday night to the owner and general manager of WHLM in Bloomsberg, PA — his father, Joe Reilly. It was accepted. Advertisers started bolting from the radio station after Reilly was seen in a “Unite the Right” video posted to YouTube. That rally was filled with white supremacists.

The rally took place in Charlottesville, the site of the recent controversy over statues of Robert E. Lee and where a young woman was mowed down by a 20-year old man while she protested. At first Reilly was suspended without pay. It appears as it became clear the radio station was losing advertisers, he submitted his resignation. Reilly hosted an evening show on the station. He posted the video of the rally himself and you can see it HERE.

And here’s a copy of the resignation letter WHLM posted to its website Wednesday evening.

WHLM is owned by Columbia Broadcasting. This statement was released when the incident started to heat up: “The station has never condoned racism, bigotry, or hatred toward anyone or any group.”

  1. Repugnant as the rally was, those in the entertainment industry need to reject the resurgence of the nightmare of McCarthyism. Losing ones employment over political activities on an employees own time is beyond repugnant. Shame on any advertiser or broadcaster who is complicent in this.
