It’s not quite what the folks at NextRadio want from Apple but it’s probably the next best thing. NextRadio has launched a free app for iPhone users, but this one will use data because it utilizes streaming as a way to allow listeners to tune into local radio. Until Apple decides to unlock the FM Chip in all of its phones, streaming will have to be the way of the world for iPhone users.
NextRadio’s Paul Brenner says, “We want to empower all users to enjoy local FM radio without having their content restricted by geographic location or choice of device, and this expansion of our capabilities and market penetration is an important part of our strategy to give more people the easiest way to access mobile radio that they can enjoy at home, at work, and on the go.”

Exciting news about the NextRadio app! It’s great to see more options for iPhone users to access local radio stations. Looking forward to trying it out and enjoying some live radio on the go!
