Christie Making Headlines At WFAN

If New Jersey Governor Chris Christie continues to get the national publicity he’s getting for WFAN auditioning for Mike Francesa’s time slot, WFAN VP of Programming Mark Chernoff may have an interesting decision to make. A heated exchange Christie had with a regular caller Monday went viral and received a lot of national publicity. The only problem…it had nothing to do with sports. The caller berated Christie for being photographed on a beach he closed to the public due to a government shutdown.

Mike from New Jersey said to Christie, “Next time you want to sit on a beach that is closed to the entire world except you, you put your fat ass in a car and go to one that’s open to all your constituents.” Christie then called Mike a communist. They argued a bit more before Christie hung up on him. It’s been widely speculated that Christie is interested in working at WFAN when his term as Governor is up. He’s appeared many times on WFAN’s morning show with Boomer and Carton.

According to several reports, the others getting an audition for the shift include Mike Valenti from WXYT-FM 97.1 in Detroit, former NFL quarterback Chris Simms, SNY’s Brian Custer, and NFL Network and WFAN contributor Kim Jones. WFAN’s Evan Roberts and Joe Benigno are also scheduled to audition.

Politico called Christie’s show a “Wildly Successful Fiasco. The New York Post said a Chris Christie Show would be damning of what radio is.
